Ashapuri Organic Farm, located in Ashapuri, Nasika Village Development Committee in Kavre district was started in 2002 and was registered to the Government of Nepal in 2007. It is located 30 km South East from Kathmandu at an altitude range of 1600 – 1800 m. and covers land area of 11 ha.

Ashapuri Organic farm has been working to promote organic farming in the country through the production, processing and marketing of organic products. It produces varieties of crops that include shiitake mushroom, fruits (yacon, kiwi, gojiberry), fresh vegetables (green lettuces, tomato, pumpkin, potato, carrot, radish, cabbage, cauliflower, zucchini, asparagus, bitter gourd, tomato, chilli, broad leaf mustard, bean, cucumber), cereals (sweet corn, sticky rice), and herbs (tulsi, stevia, rosemary) and processed products (teas, yacon syrup). Processing and product development by the farm includes herbal teas, yacon syrup, stevia and dried herbs. The organic farm is linked with Farmers’ markets and sales outlets in Kathmandu, and has established linkages with international buyers incl. German and Japanese buyers.

The farm has introduced new technologies (both locally developed and imported) that comprise of composting including vermi-compost, irrigation (sprinkler), nursery development, processing (juicer, mixture, dryer, grinder, filter and vacuum packaging), and varieties of crops (shiitake mushroom, yacon, gojiberry, artichoke, various types of lettuces, beans, pumpkin, sticky rice, chia seeds, paulownia). Thanks to ANSAB support, it has been developed as the experimentation and demonstration center for Ecosystem based Commercial Agriculture (ECA).

It has also been working with the local farmers to promote organic farming through training and fostering partnerships with farmers. It provides marketing of organic products produced by farmers, and other services as such as trainings and farm visit. It has remained as one of the popular demonstration sites of organic farm in the country, and was visited by over 30,000 domestic and 300 international visitors (e.g. from Myanmar, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Bhutan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and USA) in last two years.
